What can we do if we think something is unsafe at work?
Answer
Canadian Health and Safety Laws give workers four basic rights in these areas:
A Worker’s Right to Refuse Unsafe Work has been upheld by the courts where there exists:
- You have the Right to Participate in Health and Safety Decisions
- You have the Right to Know about Hazards in the Workplace
- You have the Right to Refuse Unsafe Work
- You have the Right to Protection from Discrimination and/or Reprisal
A Worker’s Right to Refuse Unsafe Work has been upheld by the courts where there exists:
- A danger that is not normal for that occupation.
- Imminent Danger to the worker’s health and safety exists or to another worker present at the work site.
